For 4000 years Xi'an reigned as the capital of China. Filled with history and culture, Xi'an was heavily influenced by the Tang Dynasty. It was the Tang Dynasty that formed the Silk Road. The Silk Road created a gateway for international trade from Xi'an to the Middle East and Europe. The Silk Road introduced Xi'an's brilliant and unique culture to the rest of the world. At this time Xi'an was one million people strong-the largest most advanced city in the world. As Xi'an's culture influenced the Middle East and Europe, Xi'an became a city of many cultures, yet distinctly Chinese. Xi'an became the melting pot of culture from food to traditions for all of China and a place one must visit to get the full essence of China.
Xi'an is filled with a wealth of historical artifacts--one of the grandest city walls in China that was built during the Ming Dynasty Period, the Great Goose Pagoda and the recently discovered buried treasure of the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses. Each of the 8000 warriors and horses is uniquely different. Emperor Qin specially selected each artist that created the terracotta sculptures. He also chose the Terra Cotta Warriors that would guard his tomb. If the emperor was displeased with a sculpture, grave consequences would befall the artist holding this serious and honorable position.
Also, near Xi'an is the Banpo Neolithic Village. This village, Chinese Scholars believe, was the primary starting point of a structured society in China nearly 5,000 years ago. Here you will see tools, pottery and other materials from a civilization of this early Chinese civilization. It is a once in a lifetime experience.
Xi'an's city grid is easy to follow for any newcomer to the area. You may begin at the Bell Tower in the city center. Four roads lead out from the Bell Tower in four cardinal directions. They lead to visual treasures throughout the city. If you choose to stay at the five-star Sheraton Hotel in Xi'an, it is both comfortable and convenient due to its location near the Xi'an City Wall and the city center. Luxurious accommodations include a fitness center, swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, and massage service, to name a few. Begin your mornings with a continental breakfast and set out on your travels near the very heart of Xi'an. |

In 1994, the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses were officially made public. There are different excavations sites that are called Pit 1, Pit 2, and Pit 3. Pit 1 is the most famously photographed site with an enormous steel dome that encapsulates a large number of the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses that face the entrance and surround you as you walk inside. Pit 2 also possesses the warriors and two sets of bronze chariots and horses that are a marvel to behold.
