From the Director of Marketing
The start of a new millennium ! what an exciting time! With this new era, the most wondrous change we are seeing is the amount of cooperation and communication between two nations that, though divided by the Pacific, are becoming neighbors: the U.S. and China. Travel, trade, and exchange programs are only a few of the areas of opportunity that exist.
A new market is emerging that promises growth and prosperity. People are traveling between the U.S. and China for myriad reasons. From business travel to tourism, from education to adoption, hundreds of
thousands of Americans annually are taking advantage of this newfound friendship. China has become one of the most popular destinations for U.S. travelers.
This trend is sure to continue with the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. By 2020, the World Tourism Organization predicts China will be the world's most popular travel destination, attracting 130 million visitors annually. Over the next few years, the possibilities will be endless. Now is the time to grab this ball and run with it!
We at ViaMei want to help you get your message out and take advantage of this unbelievable opportunity. That is why we have developed unique content that no other media outlet offers. Our goal is to cater to an expanding and sophisticated audience with special features, like Weekend Warrior and our VIP interviews. Each month, through our Spotlight articles featuring sister regions, we will help open doors for entrepreneurs wishing to tap the exploding trade between these great nations.
But we won¨t stop there. Our distribution strategy for both countries is ingenious. By focusing on locations regularly visited by international travelers, we are sure to have a high profile. And our push to include college and university decision-makers among our readers provides a direct pathway to a sought-after group. Our circulation within the business community and among government policymakers offers unmatched connections.
What else could you ask for? How about our dedication to providing content that our readers want. Be sure to notice our comment card included in this issue. Through this, we will be able to cater to the needs of our readers, ensuring that our magazine will be a success.
Prospects and promises abound as we build a bridge across a great ocean. Our name, ViaMei, represents what we stand for. ViaMei (pronounced vee-ah¨-may) combines the English word via with the Chinese character mei, which is the word for both beautiful and the United States, thus forming a beautiful bridge between two countries. Opportunities abound, and you cannot afford to miss them!
